9 September 2003

Well, I just got back last night from a Law School visit in Charlottesville, VA. (That's the University of Virginia, for those keeping score at home.) I must say, it really wasn't what I had expected, and I'm honestly a little disappointed in Virginian hospitality. I'm not saying that the people with whom I interacted were rude, but they sure didn't go out of their way to be exceptionally friendly, which as a potential student (and potential income for them), I found to be somewhat startling. Perhaps it was because I wasn't a "Virginian" by birth or because I came from an institution like Ohio State, but the bottom line is that they disappointed me and I'm going to think twice about applying there.

Anyhow, I'm back now, and it feels good. Tonight is dinner with a certain lovely lady, and then it's back to work tomorrow!

My God! It's been awhile since I've been on here. I'm not sure anything's really changed all that much, but I'll give you all an update (because I know you're dying to find out what I've been up to).

Anyhow, if you'll recall from my last posting here in July, I was considering my options as far as graduate work is concerned. At that time, I was thinking that I may do something drastic and go the Medical School route, which sounded good, but may have been more emotion than common sense. Needless to say, that's changed, and I'm looking at Law School really seriously now. So seriously, in fact, that I've scheduled my LSAT date for 04 October at Case Western in Cleveland. (You're wondering...why is he going to Cleveland to take a test that he could take in Columbus?) Well, the answer to that is, I CAN'T take it in Columbus. There are no open spots left at any of the Columbus area testing centers for that date. So, yeah, I'm going to Cleveland for a date with destiny. Wish me luck....

Other than that, not much has been happening. I've seen more of my pals from High School lately, which is never ever a bad thing. However, seeing them has reinforced a notion that I've had for a long time now: we're drifting apart. I suppose that happens to people as they grow and go different things, but it's never fun. Well, I think that's all from me for right now...perhaps more entertainment later!

Today's been a pretty good day. Up bright (well, not really bright) and early at 0530 and at work by 0800. I like my job a lot, which makes for a pretty enjoyable week, given that I'm working M-F. But, that's enough about that.

I've reached a crossroads in my life. I just spent 4 years and several thousand dollars of my parents' money to earn a Bachelor's Degree in History, yet I'm unsure of what I want to do from here. The logical step would be to continue in my major field in pursuit of a Master's and possibly a Doctorate in History, which would grant me entry into the wonderfully strange world that is Academia. However, if it was really that easy, I wouldn't be typing this right now.

I suppose that my problem is that I've got so many choices open to me right now, that I don't know which road to take. Graduate school? Law School? Medical School? (I know...you're thinking "wtf?")

I've been working for the past 2 years in a hospital setting, and when you combine that with the fact that when I started at OSU, I was a pre-Med student, Medical School seems somewhat viable from that standpoint. Of course, it would mean that I'd have to take some more classes to fulfill the preliminary requirements for admission (i.e. General Chem, O-Chem, Bio, and Physics, with a smattering of Calculus). As daunting as that looks, though, I think I'd be up to the challenge. Stay tuned....

In other news, I'm going to the Zoo on Saturday. I haven't been in a looooong time, and perhaps I might get some answers to my life questions from my brethren in the Gorilla exhibit. They seem like deep thinkers....

Bis spaeter....

Well, here I am. I now have an online journal like so many people that I know. I'm not sure it makes me feel any more "part" of the "group," so to speak, but what the heck.

Anyhow, let's see...today's been a pretty uneventful day thus far. I've done some reading, and I've also done some studying for my date with the Graduate Record Exam (which I haven't signed up for yet, but am preparing for nonetheless). Last night was a lot of fun. I went out with a friend of mine who is a really great person (she's also a History major, so she can't go wrong in my book ), and we saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. I must say, I really enjoyed that movie. I think the cast is perfect. It could have been a shade shorter, but other than that, I thought it was great. I highly recommend it to anyone with a free Saturday night, or whenever it is that you normally go to the movies.

Well, I think that's all from me for right now. Not much of a first entry, I know, but I'm just learning, so bear with me, and I'll get better as time goes along.
